FBI Houston, Crime Stoppers of Houston, and the FBI Houston Citizens Academy Alumni Association (CAAA) have partnered to host a #ThinkBeforeYouPost video Public Service Announcement (PSA) contest for Houston-area high school students, aimed at educating the public about the seriousness of issuing hoax school threats.
Official Rules
  1. The contest is open to all Houston area high school students in grades 9-12. Each team will consist of ONE TO FOUR STUDENTS and a TEACHER SPONSOR who will assist the team as needed and be responsible for submitting all contest forms and the video PSA entry.
  2. Entries must be 45-60 seconds (including credits) and only contain original and non-copyrighted material. No copy-written music, branded material, logos, etc, may be used without express written permission from the copyright or trademark holder. Please utilize technology to mask logos or names of corporations that may appear in the video, unless specific permission is granted to use logos or company names.
  3. All team members must not attempt to include or perform video stunts, dangerous situations, or film at dangerous locations during the production of the video. The Teacher Sponsor will guide teams through the planning and filming/submission process, in order to ensure safety and security for all students involved in the project.
  4. FBI Houston, Crime Stoppers of Houston, FBI Houston CAAA, and its #ThinkBeforeYouPost initiative partners reserve the right to disqualify any submission for any reason deemed necessary.
  5. The FBI Houston, Crime Stoppers of Houston, FBI Houston CAAA, licensees and its #ThinkBeforeYouPost initiative partners are not responsible for the content of the videos produced. Submitted videos will not be eligible if they contain or appear to contain:
      • Profane or obscene material or language
      • Nudity, profanity, or gratuitous violence
      • Endorsement of illegal drug use, alcohol abuse, prescription drug abuse, or any other illegal activity
      • Derogatory characterization of any person or group
      • Any copyrighted or trademarked materials without express written consent from the copyright or trademark holder

Important Dates
  • Team Registration Opens: September 2, 2019
  • Team Registration Deadline: October 2, 2019
  • Video Entry and Forms Submission Deadline: November 16, 2019
  • Screening Period: November 15, 2019 - December 1, 2019
  • Modified Video Submission Deadline: January 1, 2020
  • Social Media (Likes and Shares) Period: January 6, 2020 - January 31, 2020 
  • Winners Announced: February 28, 2020
How To Register

The Teacher Sponsor must complete the online REGISTER TEAM form by 5:00 pm, October 2, 2019.  

After registering a team, the Teacher Sponsor will receive an email containing the following forms which must be completed and submitted to forms@schoolpsa.com by November 15, 2019.  

Video Submission

The video PSA entry must be submitted by the Teacher Sponsor on or before November 15, 2019.  The video submissions will be screened to ensure all rules are followed. Teams that do not follow the criteria and rules will be contacted to correct their video and resubmit by December 16, 2019.

How Videos Will Be Judged

The videos will be scored by a panel of FBI Houston, Crime Stoppers of Houston, FBI Houston CAAA, and initiative partners utilizing the following scoring criteria:

Effectiveness and Relevance (30%); Content (30%); Social Media Score (20%); and Creativity (20%)

The “Social Media Score” will be calculated based on the number of YouTube "likes" and "shares” of the entry videos during the voting period, January 6, 2020 - January 31, 2020. 
Prizes

Three winning teams will receive:
  • Monetary award for their school 
    • 1st place: $5,000
    • 2nd place: $2,500
    • 3rd place: $1,500
  • Astros baseball cap for each team member
  • 4 tickets to attend an Astros 2020 game for each team member (date TBD)
  • Ride in a 2020 Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Grand Entry (date TBD)
  • 2020 Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Silver Guest Badge for each team member
The first place team will also receive:
  • Recognition in a pre-game ceremony at an Astros 2020 game (date TBD)
  • Television and/or radio appearance on a local station
Prizes are sponsored by The Astros Foundation, the FBI Houston CAAA, and
the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo.
